we f!NallY did it…!!

we have been talking about going on a makan trip in malaysia for the longest time…
talk from jb…to melaka…to kl…

we did make it to kl…
then it was history already….

for the long weekend..we decided to really do the jb eating trip…
by taking the train from tanjong pagar…
i have gotten used to this train ride..
really quite a hazzle free mode to go to jb…
for mona & kris…
it just has been a long time…
or maybe a new adventure?..

jb01

jb02

jb03

for the longest time i have paid $13 per ride…
today..strangely there was a $3.50 ticket available but on another train that’s leaving 45mins later..
sure!!…then we have more money to eat in jb… 😛

then…it was a shocking surprise…

jb04

we actually have to stand!?!!!
what the heck??…
and people being people….
do the usual thing of hogging near the doors…and not moving in even though there are still space along the aisle…

ok….a new lesson learn every time…
no more $3.50 tix..
no..no………….no…
i don’t want to feel like a cattle being herded around manz…

after…
a train ride…
2 custom clearances…
an hour of standing later..

we made it…
to the other side of the causeway…

jb05

jb07

and so did ice bat…

jb06

first thing first…
feed the monsters…
yeah..the hungry & growling thing in all of us…
bak kut teh!!..

jb08

i can’t decide if ice bat was loving it or hating it…
being feed?..or being drown in the hot soup…

jb09

mona cleaning up the blood….
i mean her perspiration….. 😛

jb18

miss ng & her new fancy camera..

jb19

*burp*…

jb10

bak kut teh for 2…
+ golden mushroom
+ little abalone something
+ fish maw
“you tiao”
sesame oil chicken
3 honey ice jelly..
= about rm$50

then it’s off to the malls..where miss ng gets her caffeine fix..

jb11

she just wouldn’t let any starbucks go…

believe it or not..
we actually caught 2 movies in a row..
friday the 13th + fast & furious 4…
vin diesel is hot!!!…hot hot hot….
i have always wanted to try watching movies in malaysia…
after all..that’s what i try to do when i visit any country..
(if you consider malaysia, although next to us, a country)
it’s cheap…rm$10 something like that..
& rm$13 for blockbusters or new movies…
2 movies…why not?..
and i must say the theatre is not bad…
except that the movies come with malay subtitles..not that it matters since they are english shows…

some “souvenirs” to bring back home..

jb14

dunkin donuts…
and still….nothing beats krisy kreme…
awwwwww…..

i love candy floss!!..
definitely happy to see some…
huge bags of some…

jb12

jb13

after some hours of routing around…round & round…
past the jams & bad traffic..
(part & parcel of coming to jb)…
time to feed the growling monsters again..
we missed the massage…
but it’s ok…
hungry monsters are tougher to handle…

we took a while to order…
not that long a while..
we were amused with the names of the dishes on the menu..

jb15

jb16

let’s see what mona’s hands are really going for…

jb17

yupz…
that’s us…

• beSides tHe pOint..

after fulfilling the first objective of coming to johor bahru..
it’s time to work out the second brief..
which is definitely more since it affects the well being of us..
(yeah…fill out stomach)…

my swimming instructor brought me here some time ago..
to be honest…ask me the exact location i don’t know..
i only know how to get there..hehe..

ah koong fishball noodles..
they use the meat of the ikan parang (yeah..literally the chopper fish) aka wolf herring to make fishballs…fishcakes…fish paste beancurd…etc etc…

jb_makan01

the can-die-for fishcake…
it’s really “bouncy” with a crispy skin… 😛

jb_makan02

the black noodle which was only made can-die-for because of the pork lard… :O

jb_makan03

the all time fish ball fan..

jb_makan04

you can pick and choose what you want…
beside the usual fishball noodles..
there’s like a rack of “yong tau foo” all filled with the wolf herring fish paste..

and their ordering system is systematic but yet not….

jb_makan05

jb_makan06

the most interesting way of dealing with takeaway food…
coming out of malaysia!!..
yeah they seal the takeaway boxes like bubble tea..
i thought it’s really cool…

jb_makan07

yeah…i was buying takeaway kuay teow soup for my grandma…
it’s one of her favourite…
it’s nice of them to separate the kuay teow from the soup…
at least everything wouldn’t be too soggy when i bring it to my grandma…

good friday holiday..

thanks to the criminal on the run..
security at customs has stepped up..
especially at the causeways to malaysia..

we were dying for some good food and cheap shopping..
so we thought it will be quite fun totry and take the train in to johor bahru..
although we had to be there (the tanjong pagar train station) like reallllllly early (train leaves at 730am)..
it still beat being stuck in the crazy jam with lots of motorbike smoke..

from this point onwards…
everything bit of the area here belongs to malaysia..

there wasn’t even any crazy people queue..
no mad rush…

jbtrain01

there’s still time to get some munchies..

jbtrain02

~ i totally knocked out ~

the next thing i know…
we were arriving at the malaysian customs already…
that was seriously an easy ride in..

jbtrain03

after getting our stamps in the passports…
getting back on the train was still easy…

jbtrain04

the train has it own way across the causeway..

jbtrain05

here we are…

jbtrain07

only a few people got off at johor bahru while the rest continues their journey to other parts of malaysia..
so there was no fuss at the malaysian custom as well…

our destination..
