any wHeeL goes…ö^ö

national runway cycling and skating 2008

this is the first time i have been there. considered it 1 of the things you must do at least once if you are living in singapore. i must say i feel good to see the amount of space there is. i mean after all it’s at the air base, so no high rise…lots of open space…it just feels good for a change. lately, everywhere i go..i see construction going on. it almost feels like i am living in a developing country (ok..maybe we really are)..everywhere is ruined. quite depressing.

besides the short period of drizzle, everything was still ok after that. clear blue sky..some sun…and no dusty..smoky air for that few hours i was at the event.

almost anything with wheels turn up at the event. bicycles – big ones…small ones..expensive ones..cheap ones..”designee” ones (paul frank!!)…specially modified ones. roller blades..and even unicycles!! i cheer the unicyclists…really i do..imagine having to do the whole route of 15km on it. lots of balancing skill manz…

what’s after stEambOat in the offiCe?

bbq.

unbelievable but true. definitely smoky. VERY. psi 500. no…make it 800.

this is my 2nd friday in my new work place. yeah…fortunately i have made it through 2 weeks. apparently they do like bbq lunch once a month. and i think i joined just almost in time not to have to wait too long to see how they do it.

they have a gas grill “station” in the balcony. and that’s it…the food station as well. everyone had a chance with a pair of tongs in the fire and smoke. but i had another chance to cook some food in the electric steamboat thingy. amazing huh? the station at the balcony had too many people crowding around. waiting for any piece of cooked meat to be tossed out.

when all is still neat and organised..
food to feed the army..

something cooking – sweet potatoes and sambal sotong!!

everyone brought together by f..o….o….d..

when all else fails, the pantry became an alternative to get some frozen meat cooked. an electric cooker – that of a steamboat was taken out.

that rAiny night..

the 10th may weekend i was staying at gallery hotel with my fiend (yeah..that weekend before the fiends finally reunite again). it rained that saturday night. i woke up in the middle of the night…..i heard the thunder. it was pouring quite crazily outside.

i went to look outside and saw the streets that looks really nice…because it is empty. it reminds me of a movie i-dent that we see at the beginning.

the emptiness brings along with it some peacefulness. lonely it may seemed…but i was calm.

.. the cLubman was bORn ..

some people went “r…i..g..h…t….”

i just went…”mini!!!!!!!”…

cHicken on the isLand…

i made my first attempt to cycle to work today. finally….

it wasn’t that bad. except for the extra load i have to carry with me in my ortlieb which made cycling more manageable than to carry a back pack behind me.

it has been a while since i cycle when the sun is on its way up. it was always way before the sun is even waking or….when the moon is watching me on my route. so i feel good seeing the activities that are going on all around in the light.beautiful…

my best distraction today will be the chicken i saw in the middle of nowhere…quite literally. because it was just hanging around on this road island off fort road. which is nothing but a small small small…..piece of grass with 3 roads around it – 2 roads leading to the expressway and 1 leading to east coast park. it’s really quite crazy. i really wonder how it got there. there’s a park nearby next to some private housing. maybe it ran off from there….but for the hen to make it to the road island, it literally have to take the zebra crossing.

i wanted to bring it back to the park, at least closer to home and safer. but you know how chickens are like…they are just all over the place when you try to get near them…geez…..i gave up after a while. i hope her owner finds her….and not end up being a road kill…. 😦

maybe i should bring something in my bag to try and trap her the next time i cycle…hopefully she won’t be there anymore..but back home..

:: english :: for the children in phuket

phuket has been good to us.

it is a foundation which is trying to provide english language education to the children in phuket. i have come across it when i was flying back on jetstar and was reading the inflight magazine – jetaway. jetaway is being published by spudniks in singapore, and they are collaborating with jetstar to do something for the children in phuket.

phuket has been good to us is trying to build a library filled with english books for the children. so spudniks will collect donation of english books which will then be passed to jetstar which will shipped the books to phuket on their planes doing the route there.

i am in the midst of collecting some english books from some friends besides bringing out my own childhood collection. hope anyone who has any old english books to give away to help to contribute to this children’s library too if possible.

the address to send the books to is:
spudniks
298 River Valley Road
Level 2
Singapore 238339

if you need further clarification..details or directions…feel free to contact jess at 6837 4031

but do write to me if you have too many books to give to the children. i will be able to help collect the books from you or move the books… 🙂

we all had our chance for a good english education before already. hope we can share this chance with the other children as well…

love all!!

“it can take a goldfish (carassius auratys) a month to recover its hearing after it has been exposed to a loud noise.”

~ matt walker in “why do moths drink elephants’ tears?

first it was that they have such poor memory that they can’t remember if they have eaten and how much they have eaten (i wonder if it will be mentioned in this book)..
then now this…
no wonder they seemed to die so easily as pets…
*sigh*…

baggerland in english and originally in german.

the big playground for the big kids in us (but it is in berlin). a lot of sand…yes…and mud. but no colorful see-saws or merry-go-rounds. instead…bulldozers, excavators…tractors…all the heavy duty…industrial strength equipment… *evil laughter*

i saw it being featured on the news and i heard that it is actually very popular with women!! finally a place for the chicks to let the male hormones out!!
