((heLvet!cA))

yeah!! i finally got my own copy of the helvetica movie!!.. woohooooooooo!! definitely going to check out what i have been missing besides all the youtube clips and trailers…

!! giRL interrupted xxx

i had meant to get home early last night to do something..nothing quite important, but it’s just that i have been wanting to spring clean my external hard disk which i know has been filled to the brim with file duplicates…old work which probably will never see the light anymore…songs i kept for old times sake in case one day someone will ask me if i have any of the mp3s…photos over the many holidays and fun times but just never looked at anymore…etc etc…

somehow that errand has been around my mind itching me for the longest time, i don’t know why. and yeah….another unsuccessful attempt to do it last night. had an unexpected case of over-listening to some rantings….ok..i admit..maybe i should have been less of a busybody. but i just couldn’t find an appropriate time to put a period (.) somewhere until more than an hour later…. *sigh*…

so i am feeling really grouchy now…*aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrgggh* like i was all ready to do something..had the momentum for it but had to jam break. oh well, ok….nobody dies…the next worst things that can happen is when my hard disk doesn’t start up and i will be like “i should have gotten down to doing it!!?!!?”.

let me try again….tonight…

as much as i enjoy playing geocaching, it got a little still for me after a while. well this is singapore afterall…*sigh*…it isn’t an active thing here……and there just isn’t much of any interesting terrain around. maybe i am just too close to home…

i came by this thing position art the other day and thought it’s really cool and interesting. i thought, maybe that’s something i can do to bring my game further. nokia has this guy Stavros, position art artist who is really funny and he will be like his art thingy in a few major countries and cities. cool…if only such activation is done here….and of course, we would need spontaneous people as well… 😛

The World is My Canvas.
i thought this Stavros guy is really quite entertaining….

i like this spot!!

doesn’t he remind you of someone from star trek? it’s funny how he goes around fiddling with the old lady’s hair and the guy’s newspaper…haha..

:: i love m!ni ::

is it love? yes it is.

i realised i have taken quite a bit of pictures of mini, old and new, over the last couple of years. time to try fishing all of them out. i am sure i have met some of the minis more than once in my life. yeah…i am pretty good at remembering car plate numbers..hehe…

i love mini. i do. now at ilovemini.wordpress.com

*right next to a great potter…

iskandar jalil.

the mrt took a sudden brake and the guy next to me bump into me a little bit almost losing his balance. i look up from my book and saw a familiar side view. hmmmmm…i tried to pretend not to be looking at him so obviously. i remembered he got on at kembangan station..so that make me doubly sure he was who i think he was.

yeah…he’s one of singapore’s most highly regarded potter or ceramist. iskandar jalil. i first heard and met him when i was still in design school. he was still teaching pottery at that time. unfortunately i didn’t get to take his class, even though i have long heard that he’s a brutal old man. for the good of his students and keeping the standards…that’s how i see it. but i can truly understand how it feels like to have your piece of work (which you probably spent days and nights on) pushed down the ledge 3 stories high. and that’s it..start all over again…

he is a physically fit old man (68 years old now). i have heard that he will do runs from his house in kembangan to the changi airport and back. i have personally see him at the fitness corner of east coast park doing pull-ups and sit-ups. amazing…and i remember his little scooter which has a shelter over. nice..

back then he just to have his own kiln in his own backyard of the house. but he eventually had to give it up because of complaints from his neighbours. it was with that much used kiln that he produced many pieces of great work. he then moved to mandai where they have workshops with the longest kiln in singapore, for sculptors and potters like himself. it’s one of those things like hawker center food…the taste is always different if they move to a new location or a new place….i remember him saying that nothing beats the good old personal one at home he had for the longest time…the new one just doesn’t produce the same result anymore.

he actually offered me a seat when somebody got up in the mrt. i just smiled to him and said i was getting off the next stop. (he sure is quite a gentleman as he offered another lady another seat just before this) he nodded and return a smile to me before getting off at bugis station.

somehow i was happy to see him again..partly because i remember i had friends who were in his class and he will call them cockroach and monkeys in hokkien…haha..

the singapore airshow 2008

i went and check it out with my parents yesterday. the crowd was crazy. the facilitation of the whole event was even crazier. it was probably a plan that worked on paper and in theory, and when put to a real test of at least 40,000 people, it was a just disastrous.

besides being a typical singaporean that just complain about the what-nots, i think the airshow was quite something. being inspired to be a pilot from young…it reminded me more of what i have been missing out. yeah…i didn’t just want to be a commercial pilot, i actually wanted to be an air force pilot.

i was among the tens of thousands of people watching the aerobatic flying display. first to start the show were the 6 black knights from the singapore air force. ok..i have never watched such things live, it has always been a thing on tv, and the closest i ever got was seeing the fighter jets fly by and hearing them loud and clear when they do their practices when i cycle at east coast park. seeing them live this time just made my heart beat so hard. nice…i wish i was one of them up there. still….i never stop dreaming about it until now..hahhaa..

my father likes the trade show exhibition more than the exhibition of just planes. being an electrician, he is really intrigued by all the air plane parts and engines. thou not understanding a word of english, he had a spent a long good time just looking at the models. he has watched tonnes of national geographic and discovery on cable (with the help of chinese subtitles) so he was talking to my mother (who just listens patiently all the time) about all the pieces of information and knowledge he has gathered from everywhere.

that’s my father..something i really admired him for. he never stopped learning even thou he wasn’t very highly educated and not really english educated at all. to be honest..it was something i was ashame of for a while when i was really really young. like i would go to school and meet other kid’s parents and they seemed so high and mighty. but along the way..i just became very proud of my parents. they came a long way in their own lives..even though they didn’t make it very big….but i really think they did a lot for themselves and their best within their own means.

i saw many interesting aircrafts and things related to the field. from air plane engines… window materials..technology being used to automate flights and etc…it’s really not just about boeing or airbus building a plane. nice….

happy valentine’s from the singapore air force

and of course, the big thing now: a380. too bad, it was a by-invite only event to tour the aircraft. but i was more than happy to be just standing under it and see it’s magnitude for myself.

everyone rushing for the a380 as it gets towed in to the site

i guess i didn’t regret going to the airshow and bringing my parents along as well. even though we had such a long nightmare getting there and back. will i ever go again?… hmmmmmmmmmmmmm………..erm….

awwwwww….

my god…my god…my god…

“I produced this animation as a way of proposing to my girlfriend (now wife) Natasha. I assembled a team of 20 animators to assist me, including co-workers, as well as students from my 3D character animation class at the Art Institute of California-San Francisco. We created more than four minutes of animation in just three months. When it was completed, I surprised Natasha by bringing her to the Parkway Movie Theater in Oakland, where they played the animation on the big screen in front of over 100 of our friends and family.”

i like how the guy in the animation which is him…
really looks like him… 😛

zaha hadid :: and now it is chanel mobile art

my heroine in the fields of architecture…zaha hadid

she has done it again with a 7500 square foot exhibition structure which will begin in 5 days in hong kong. the form and structure is really impressive. i like buildings which has an organic form to it, like it’s very fluid. it will be interesting to see how they are able to make this sort of structure mobile. i would assume it isn’t going to be a 1 piece thing, but to be able to make it into units which can be taken apart and assembled again… hmmmmm.. definitely quite something. we used to have the venue puma store container here, which literally is a container.

it will be going to japan as well!! maybe i should start planning for another trip this year. or even london to visit a good friend of mine who is also a fan of zaha hadid.
