himeji castle in himeji city.
when i got out of the train at himeji station, i sign in for the free bicycle rental to visit the himeji castle. when i got out of the train station, what i saw was really like…wow…i could see the castle even though it was still at least 6 traffic junctions away. the “white heron” castle, it is so white…so beautiful in the winter air. (no snow yet) it is really a very well preserved wooden castle because it has never been damaged in any wars and it kept itself safe through the 2nd world war too. i was really quite impressed. i wasn’t quite expecting to see something so clean and pretty and not so barricaded off to visitors. i can go to any floors, look out of any windows, didn’t see any “no entry” sign throughout the whole tour.
the flights of steps inside the main tower are really steep and narrow and i banged my head twice on the low stairway ceiling. ouch…the wooden structure sure is still well preserved. when i reached the top of the main tower, the view out was beautiful. i could see where i started from, the train station, about the same 6 traffic junctions away..
what goes up…must come down. as i struggled up the narrow and steep flights of steps *panting*, i stuggled down the same way too *panting*. good thing it’s winter and the air is less humid, so i don’t really perspire so much doing so much walking and climbing and getting breathless.
the model of the entire himeji castle compound. hmmmm…there’s really a lot to cover.

i can see the castle from when i came out from the station!!

getting closer now…

i was welcomed by ninjas at the slope at the main entrace. first slope and many more to come inside the compound of the castle.

almost there….

the first sakura i have ever seen!! (not counting the plastic ones) and about the last as winter approaches.

ok..this picture really doesn’t justify how majestic the castle really is as compared to when you are really there.

there are supposed to be 11 dolphin statues (the mythical creature with its tail facing up) protecting the castle. something about dolphins are from the sea…and they will protect the castle from fire.

cabbage flower!! so pretty….white ones, purple ones….they look fresh in this weather that they feel edible..

hmmm..if you think that serving the army in singapore is tough. i am not sure if any of the guys find this any better manz, being a millitary cleaner? propelling down the wall sure does sounds macho….to do pruning and weeding?

the navy?
